How do you clean quartz countertops? If you’re asking that question - you’re in the right place! In this blog post, we'll show you how to clean your quartz countertops and we'll share some tips on how to prevent future stains and damage. Read on to learn more!

Caution when cleaning Quartz countertops

Quartz countertops are a popular choice for many homeowners due to their durability and attractive appearance, but caution is essential when it comes to cleaning them. To keep quartz countertops looking their best, it's important to avoid exposing them to anything acidic or abrasive, such as vinegar, lemon juice, bleach, glass cleaner with ammonia, scouring pads, or other cleaning products containing harsh chemicals as these substances can erode the surface of the quartz and cause hazing or staining.

Protect your quartz countertops from things that stain

While we’re on the topic of stains, we recommend you limit the amount of colored or acidic food you allow on your quartz countertops. Be sure to use a cutting board and try to never allow ultra-colorful or acidic foods to touch your quartz countertops. Here’s a list of some of the main things that can stain your quartz countertop, in no particular order (below).

  • Tea

  • Coffee

  • Red wine

  • Cola

  • Fruit juices

  • Tomato-based sauces

  • Curry

  • Mustard

  • Balsamic vinegar

  • Soy sauce

  • Beats

  • Make-up (especially lipstick)

Cleaning quartz countertops

Now that we’ve briefly mentioned stains, along with things to avoid, let’s get down to cleaning.

Fortunately, cleaning quartz countertops is quite simple and the best way to clean quartz countertops is with a soft cloth dampened with warm water. Many of our suppliers recommend using just warm water and mild soap or dish soap, to clean your quartz countertops, just keep in mind some dish soaps contain harsh or acidic chemicals so caution should be used. One supplier recommends mixing warm water in a bowl with liquid dish detergent and then whisking until it is completely dissolved in the water. If you do this, we suggest cleaning the countertop in a circular motion with a soft dish towel and then wiping it down with a clean towel and fresh water, but you can find your own favorite cleaning technique. After cleaning, you may wish to dry your quartz countertop with a soft paper towel or a dry hand towel and buff your quartz countertops with a clean dry microfiber cloth for a beautiful shine. It’s really that simple and by taking caution when cleaning quartz countertops, you can help ensure your home's surfaces stay looking great for years to come.

Removing stains on quartz countertops

For tougher stains, some suppliers recommend making a paste out of baking soda and water and applying it to the affected area with a soft cloth. To do this, simply combine a tablespoon of baking soda with a couple of tablespoons of water and mix those together to form a paste. Spread the paste over the stain and let it sit for approximately five minutes. When it’s time to remove the paste simply wipe your countertops down with the aforementioned warm water and hand towel, just be sure not to scrub, and definitely do not use a scouring pad, as this can damage the surface of your countertops.
